I Don’t Want to Be Here…
Four walls. All I can see are four walls. I can barely seem them actually. I’m half blind. I can pick out this and that but not much. I can’t talk. I can barely mumble. I can barely hear. I’ve had a stroke, you see, about one year ago now.
Now I live in a care home for the elderly. My son or two daughters and their partners come and see me several times a week. It must be so hard for them, impossible even. How can they chat to me if I can’t reply? You can see it in their forlorn faces. You can see them struggle to find a topic of conversation that doesn’t involve the weather or my plight. Then there’s my body. I keep having falls. My porcelain, soft skin is as fragile as a spider’s web, my bruised face is as purple as poison, my painful cuts seep blood as red as anger.
It’s just, I’ve nothing to do. I can’t see to read books, I can’t hear to listen to music, I can’t speak to chat. I used to enjoy listening to my audio tapes of stories but I haven’t the concentration for those. I like to wander nowadays. I’ll aimlessly walk to the lounge on my floor, the middle floor of the home or sometimes the lounge downstairs, down the lift. I know I’m not steady on my feet but I like the change of scenery. It adds something new to my day, like watercolour to a dull, black and white picture. If no nurses are around, it can be quite dangerous but I just forget or I’m too stubborn and just carry on regardless. I’ll trip or I’ll bang into something and I’ll hurt myself, I’ll bruise myself.
If only I could talk. My family must be so worried about me. I’d love to just chat with them, put their tired minds at rest. I wish my tired mind, my tired head; my tired body could just rest. I wish I could just close my eyes and hope. I don’t want to be here…

New glass bottles are made mainly of silica sand. The sand is melted in a furnace, at a very high temperature. Recycled glass bottles are made in a very similar way, but cost less and use up fewer natural resources.
What happens to the old glass bottles? The process begins when people take their used bottles and jars to a bottle bank. Next, the bottles and jars are taken by lorry to the recycling plant. At the plant, bottle tops and lids are removed. After that, the glass is crushed into small pieces. Where does the crushed glass go? The crushed glass is then sent by lorry to a bottle factory. Here, it is mixed with a small amount of silica sand. It is then melted in a furnace, at a lower temperature than new glass. How are the new recycled bottles made? Finally, the hot liquid glass is drawn out of the furnace and fed into machinery that makes it into bottles.
Recycled glass is as pure and as strong as new glass. Glass can be recycled many times without losing its quality.

The government has just published a report that suggests television is partly responsible for the serious increase in crime over the last ten years. The exposure of violence or pornography harmfully effects on children.
Some people think that the years before the invention of television were a better time. They claim that families talked more and did more things together. They read more books. People used their imaginations more fully. People got more outdoor exercises.
But, others disagree. They claim that television is a powerful educational tool. It informs us of what is going on in the world, from a famine in Africa to a local politics and fashion. It helps us understand how people live, work and struggle. Television is credited with being a great teacher, but it is also blamed for the poor reading and writing skills of our population. Television gets praised for helping us understand the people of the world. But it has been accused of helping to destroy family life. Television keeps us informed about the political issues of the day.
Experts will probably continue to argue about television’s value. But everyone agrees that it is one of the most significant inventions of the twentieth century.

Studying abroad seems challenging. It has advantages and disadvantages.
Studying abroad gives you many benefits. Living in different country for a while will teach you culture more than you can learn in any book. When you stand outside of your culture for a change, you get new perspective and you role within it.
Besides, studying abroad will make you master another language. When you suddenly find yourself immersed in a word where everyone speaks another language, you may be scared out of your mind. But, this wears off, and before you know it you’ll be fluent.
Another benefits you may get when studying abroad is that you will be more independent. When you study abroad, there is no going home to Mom or Dad when you’re lonely or need to do laundry. You’re on your own.
On the other hand, studying abroad has also disadvantages. The surprisingly difficult experience of living abroad is cultural shock. The experience of shifting cultures can make you more resilient, but it is more difficult than others.
Moreover, study abroad credits may not transfer to your school or to your major. Potentially, study abroad can slow down your progress toward graduation. If you’re not a strong student to begin with, study abroad may not be a good idea.
Another disadvantage is that you will miss the warmth of your family. You’ll feel lonely. Independence is a good thing, but so is if there are circumstances at home, like a loved one who is terminally ill, maybe this isn’t the time for you to leave.
Remember, your school has resources to help you make an educated decision about whether you should study abroad and about what programs would most benefit you.
